I am a beginner and not certified to scuba dive, can I dive without a certification while I’m in Cozumel?
Absolutely! You only need to find a dive center or dive operation that offers a Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) program. These mini-courses are perfect for the first time diver or a person in Cozumel without a lot of time. Many people do DSD courses because they aren’t sure if they’re ready to commit to a full scuba diving certification course, too. Give yourself about 2 hours to complete a DSD if you do one dive and 3 hours if you want to go twice! Hint: We offer a FANTASTIC and FUN DSD program!

How do I become certified to scuba dive while I’m in Cozumel?
In order to obtain an PADI Open Water certification you will have to complete an Open Water course with a qualified instructor; there are essentially 3 ways to do this now.
- Open Water Referral, in which you complete the the theory, academics and confined water skills with a referring scuba instructor, usually at home before getting to Cozumel, and then we’ll complete the 4 open water dives and skills required for PADI Open Water certification. This will take 2 days or about 8 total hours.
- eLearning Referral, in which you complete the theory and academics online, usually at home before you get to Cozumel, and then we’ll teach you the required skills in confined water and practice them in open water. This will take 2 to 3 days or approximately 12 to 18 total hours.
- Full Open Water Course, you will complete theory and academics, 5 confined water dives and 4 open water dives with us in Cozumel, Mexico. It will take approximate 3 to 5 (usually no more than 4) working between 7 to 9 hours a day.
Please see our PADI Open Water Diver certification course page for detailed information and scheduling.
